Cala d'Or Majorca
Cala d'Or is a gem of a resort, situated on the east coast of Majorca around 1 hours drive from Palma airport. Cala d'Or is a smart modern resort, and many holiday visitors return year after year. The town has grown up around what was originally a small Mallorcan fishing village, but tourism is now the town's main income. Expansion of the town has been carefully controlled with no high rise buildings, so retains a Majorcan village atmosphere. The centre of Cala d'Or town Cala Gran is a pedestrian only zone, which make its traffic free walkways perfect for an evening stroll to look at the chic boutiques, before dinner in one of the many restaurants or a cool drink in the shade of the colourful parasols lining the streets outside the bars.
There are seven small beaches at Cala d'Or all within a few minutes walk of the town, all have fine golden sand lapped by warm crystal clear water and surrounded by pine covered headlands. Cala Gran beach is the largest, but only around 45m in width by 100m deep.
One of the many coves at Cala d'Or is home to the Cala Llonga Marina which is still the the port for local traditional fishing boats as well as smart modern yachts. There are plenty of restaurants around the Marinas edge where you can enjoy one of the local specialities in the shade of one of the striped awnings while watching the boats come and go.
If you tire of just relaxing and soaking up the sun, there are plenty of activities on offer in Cala d'Or, such as windsurfing, boat trips, sailing, snorkeling, fishing, tennis, golf, cycling, riding and walking in the lovely countryside or the orange and lemon groves surrounding the town.
